Museum Meets: Urban Naturalist, Building Stones – is this part of the Anthropocene?

November 22, 2012

Frontiers on BBC Radio 4 on Wednesday 21 was on the topic of the Anthropocene – a possible new geological time period due to human’s impact on the planet. One item was on the future geological record that may be left by the building material used in our cities today. Kinderscout grit, Helpet edge Rock and Runcorn Red are some of the stones that have been used to build Manchester and could form a new rock layer well into the future. The Urban naturalist session on Saturday 24 November will look at some of these stones and others.
