12 12 12 ~ humanity ~ Manchester is working in collaboration with several people, organisations, institutions, disciplines and above all human beings, in an attempt to expose, reveal and understand something of what it is to be a human being. (

Two events are being held at the museum on 12th December 2012 (12.12.12):

This two-hour workshop will dispel common myths, demonstrate the nuts and bolts of planning a funeral, inspire you and give you confidence. Sue & John will guide you through a process to creatively consider your own funeral wishes and to arrive at an imaginative framework for a personal ceremony that is truthful and distinctive yet still legal and dignified.

John Fox and Sue Gill write Dead Good Guides and formerly artistic directors of the celebratory arts company Welfare State International (1968-2006). Their publications, training programmes for independent celebrants and secular ceremonies have had a major effect on the funeral industry.

ONE by Rebecca Cunningham

Time: 11.00am-5pm

Location: Living Worlds Gallery, Manchester Museum

ONE is a durational performance by Rebecca Cunningham and all of you. ONE is a performance that may take ONE lifetime, ONE person sitting opposite ONE person, there is ONE exchange, ONE sample of DNA is collected; if desired ONE sample of DNA is exchanged, this will happen ONE million times until ONE million samples have been collected. Once ONE million samples from ONE million people have been collected, each DNA sample will be imaged and from ONE million DNA images: ONE will be made, a composite of all.
