Collection Bites – Poetry of Objects and Bees

January 30, 2014

Collections Bites is our monthly insight into Museum objects.

The Poetry of Objects

Wednesday February 5th 1.05-2pm

Join Melanie Giles, Senior Lecturer in Archaeology from the University of Manchester, as she muses on the inspiration to be gleaned from archaeological artefacts. Reflecting on a range of contemporary poets, the workshop will consider how both objects and human remains can be sites of both memory and meaning. She will also read from her own work based on archaeological sites and finds.

Manchester is buzzing; Bee keeping at the Manchester Museum

Wednesday March 5th 1.05-2pm

It seems bee hives are popping up in some unusual places in the city, as people all over the place are doing their best to keep the honey flowing and the bees alive. Join Sally and Sam, the Manchester Museum’s bee keepers and hear about their struggles to develop a colony on the roof and take a closer look at specimens in the collection.

Places are limited so please book a place by ringing 0161 275 2648 or emailing museum@manchester.ac.uk
