Ideas for Life?

June 13, 2014

Ideas for Life is the theme for this year’s Universities week and also the title of our Big Saturday on 14 June. Drop by to the museum between 11am and 4pm for a day of discovery. Become mini researchers and find out how bananas, meteorites, dinosaurs and frogs are linked together by University of Manchester research.

Activities include

• See live animals and find out about frogs and physics.

• Join scientists from the School of Earth, Atmospheric and Environmental Sciences who study meteorites to learn more about the formation and evolution of our solar system. See samples of a wide range of different meteorites and discover what these 4.5 billion year old gifts from space can tell us about the history of Earth and the planets around us.

• Help create a 3D brain in our Science Stroke Art activity.

• Meet scientists from the Manchester Cancer Research Centre and decode fruit DNA.

• Help fill out Healthy Food Waste Skip with bananas with artist Lucy Burscough.

• Become mini researchers and complete our Big Saturday Research trail.

• Dinosaur diagnostics: Join scientists from Centre for Ancient Life, identifying injuries in dinosaurs and their living relatives, the birds, through a combination of chemistry, physics, biology and good old fashioned detective work.
