June 26, 2014

Our next full Urban Naturalist is on Sat 28 June, 2-4pm and is about the Museum Geology Garden.
Woo dale Limetsone, Shap Granite and Miller’s Dale Lave are all rocks that feature in the Manchester Museum geology garden. Join Amanda Edwards, Curator and Resource Manager at School of Earth, Atmospheric and Environmental Sciences University of Manchester for a geologists tour of this hidden resource and take part in some practical geological experiments.
We will meet in the Museum’s rock garden and learn about the rocks and the stories they tell – How do you identify igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic rocks? Can we work out how the mysterious marks were made in the sandstone from Tintwistle? Why do only certain stones get used for the buildings in Manchester? And who were the people involved with working these stones? Book on 0161 275 2648, £3, adults
